Story
As some of you will know, the iconic Ford RideLondon-Essex 100 takes place on Sunday 26 May 2024
The centrepiece of the world’s greatest festival of cycling, the 100-mile challenge is one of the UK’s most famous rides and gives a unique opportunity for me to cycle on traffic-free roads through some of the most famous streets of London and the picturesque villages and countryside of my neighborhoods in Essex.
I have decided to embark on this challenge for three very special people. Firstly, my wonderful Mum, Anne, who has recently been diagnosed with secondary cancer. She is fighting with his disease both mentally, physically and emotionally; a journey that with my Dad, she is being so incredibly brave.
My wife’s cousin Kerry Allshire has also been recently diagnosed with breast cancer and as I write this passage, I have the insight that she is at home recovering from a successful operation. Both please stay positive and strong.
And finally, for my brother-in-Law, Luke Hart, who sadly passed away in January last year, following a near 5-year battle with cancer; I believe it is also fitting to do so in memory of Luke and importantly in support of his foundation.
The Luke Hart Foundation has been set up by Luke’s family in his memory and works to provide fundraising and support for a number of charities. I am delighted to announce that through this cycling, I’m aiming to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Please watch out for further information regarding the Ride and where I shall be passing through different locations, doing my best to finish in time in a man’s skin tight Lycra.
