Story
In May 2019, we lost my brother suddenly and unexpectedly and his passing left a huge hole in our hearts, especially among our extended family and friends of Syston Scout Group and Syston Scout & Guide Band — both of which were a big part of his life.
Since Dave's passing, I’ve found strength and healing through running and cycling, transforming my lifestyle and mindset. I’m now preparing to take on the Leicester Half Marathon — a challenge I never thought possible, running 13.1 Miles (21.1km) in a circuit around Leicester, starting from Victoria Park, heading through town, along the Golden Mile all the way to Thurmaston and heading out to Watermead Country Park, we then head past Birstall and back through the city centre to New Walk and up to the finish line back at Victoria Park. I shall be tackling all of this in honour of Dave, on Sunday 26th October 2025.
I’ll be raising money for two causes that meant the world to him:
Brain Tumour Research
To support vital work into understanding and treating this devastating disease
and
Syston Scout Group
To help continue the legacy of community, adventure, and belonging that shaped his life
One in three people in the UK knows someone affected by a brain tumour. This disease is indiscriminate; it can affect anyone at any age. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002.
Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this. It is the only national charity focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. Help fund the fight. Together we will find a cure.
You can choose which cause to support — both are close to our hearts and every donation makes a difference. So I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all, for any donation that you are able to give and know that we are raising money to help two great charities.
