Story
I’m fundraising for Tommy’s who exist to stop the heartbreak and devastation of baby loss and to make pregnancy and birth safer - for everyone.
Tommy's is dedicated to finding causes and treatments as well as providing trusted pregnancy and baby loss information and support.
Five years ago, I developed pre-eclampsia which affected myself and my first child, Reece. Reece was 4lb 3oz when he was born, but he was healthy and has grown into a beautiful little boy. The care I received at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester, was outstanding. Their dedication, knowledge and kindness saved Reece’s life and supported us every step of the journey. They also supported my second pregnancy, and ensured the healthy birth of my next baby, Jessie. Tommy’s Manchester Research Centre is an integral part of the work at St Mary’s Hospital. Laura, Linda and Helen - thank-you always.
The Great North Run has always been a part of my life - annual trips to watch my dad, until I was old enough to run it with him. It is 17 years since I last took part, and dad is now no longer able to run due to his mobility. So I am doing this for you Dad, and to raise money for all the families affected by complications in childbirth. Until recent months, I had not been running since the birth of Reece, so this Great North Run will be a special challenge.
