It's imperative that we input new strategies to combat mental health and suicide prevention in Shropshire. We need to reach people before they get to their lowest point and make sure they have access to services if they need them.

Story

Dig out that jumpsuit, those flares or even hotpants 🤩 We’re bringing 70’s Disco Fever to Shrewsbury Quarry !

On Saturday 18th May 2024 ‘ I Can Dance Shrewsbury’ will host a one-off 70’s Disco Workshop where you , your friends and family can congregate to learn a fun and uber funky Disco routine with hundreds of other locals. You will find your self cutting the rug to a medley of disco classics from Freak Out - Stay Alive and so many more 🕺🕺. To add more glitter, we are urging everyone to dress up to create a sea of 70's Boogie wonderland on the Quarry!

As well as throwing your finest Disco shapes, you will also be supporting the work of Shropshire Mental Health Support Charity (SMHS). The theme for Mental Health Week this year is ‘Move for your Mental’ Health’ and your presence will help us raise awareness of how movement, be it dance or any other exercise, benefits our mental well-being in some many ways! We guarantee that this 1 hour workshop will leave you smiling !

Our fun-family dance event also seeks to raise funds to help SMHS purchase a new well-being vehicle so more people across the county can access FREE mental health support .

We hope to raise at least £3000 to help us achieve our goal. Please help us reach and exceed this target in true Disco Inferno style! We're are asking for a £2 donation to take part or if you can spare more it would be hugely appreciated. You can donate using our just giving page or bring cash on the day to throw in one of our fundraising buckets.

...We once got 1096 people dancing 20's Charleston on the Quarry, lets do it again 70's stylee!

The well-being vehicle will offer direct support to people in crisis, suicide prevention, outreach and advocacy, and support for individuals and families of those suffering from poor mental health.

Shropshire MHS is a community-based charity that provides person-centred support to individuals affected by mental or emotional distress in Shropshire. Established in 1974, we offer a wide range of quality services throughout the county, to help bridge the gap between illness and full independence for our service users.

Our vision is to ensure that everyone has the right to live equally with others and enjoy a good quality of life, regardless of the areas in which they need support and for how long. We respect our users and strive for justice and equality of access to services. We work in partnership with our clients to ensure that their right to make choices is preserved and that they can play the fullest possible part in their communities.
