Culford Sprint Triathlon · 1 June 2025

Dhammaloka is a UK charity and part of the Triratna Buddhist Community. It is dedicated to raising money in the UK to assist Buddhist social and Dhamma projects in India.

Story

It's that time again! I'm taking on a new challenge, my first ever Triathlon event! I've decided to start with a sprint triathlon which I have been training for over the last 12 weeks. It will involve:

• 12 lengths of the swimming pool (300m) followed by

• 20km bike ride followed by

• 4km run

It's at Culford School near Bury St Edmunds and I am super excited!

Recently I heard about a project which is needing funding to get off the ground for a charity I am really passionate about, so this fundraiser will be to help support Aryaloka Computer Education who are transforming lives through digital skills in India.

Who are Aryaloka Computer Education?

Aryaloka Computer Education provides high-quality IT training to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, particularly those from Dalit communities. Founded on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's principles of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, they help students break the cycle of poverty by moving from traditional low-paid manual work to secure IT careers.

I was fortunate enough to visit four of their training centres when I was in India last year, and meet first-hand the young people whose lives are being transformed through their training services, and their amazing teachers.

Their impact

• 6 training centres serving 1,000+ students annually

• 70-80% success rate in job placement and further education

• 60% of students are women, challenging gender inequality

• 25 years of proven experience delivering life-changing education

• Alumni network that supports new students and provides role models

Their approach sets them apart

Unlike other training providers, they offer:

• Personal mentoring ensuring high retention and achievement

• English language training alongside technical skills

• Personal development including human rights education

• Alumni support for job placement

• Leadership development for future community leaders

Their immediate need

Aryaloka have found a perfect 5.5-acre plot near Nagpur to develop residential facilities for 100 students and also non-residential educational facilities. They've already:

• Purchased half the land £20,000 (INR 2200000 rupees)

• Made an initial payment £9,500 (INR 1100000 rupees) for the remaining half

Why this land matters

This land acquisition will allow Aryaloka to:

• Create a permanent home for their residential training programs

• Expand their reach to more rural and disadvantaged communities

• Develop sustainable facilities that reduce long-term operational costs

• Secure Aryaloka's future for generations of students

How your contribution will help

In first phase they now need to raise £13,640 (INR 1600000 rupees) to complete the land purchase deal and to put in place an initial shelter development:

• £9,090 - Complete the land purchase
(INR 1080000 Rs.)

• £1,820 - Land maintenance and cleaning two wells
(INR 210000 Rs.)

• £2,730 - Purchase a 10×20 ft ready-made container home for immediate use (INR 320000 Rs.)

Why your support matters

Aryaloka Computer Education is at a critical juncture in their 25-year journey of empowering disadvantaged youth in India. They need your help to complete the purchase of land that will secure their future and expand their impact.

Your contribution will change lives

By supporting this land purchase it's not just about funding property, your investment will be directly supporting a proven pathway out of poverty for some of India's most disadvantaged young people. Every contribution, regardless of size, brings Aryaloka closer to completing this vital project.

Please donate today and help us secure this land within the next six months, ensuring Aryaloka can continue transforming lives through education and digital skills for decades to come.
