Story

In April 2026, Lynne, Ali and I are going to be running the London Marathon 🏃🏼‍♀️‍➡️ Yikes!

Here’s a little bit about why I’m raising money for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland…

Calla was born in 2015, the first daughter to Lynne and Ali – and from the very beginning, she decided to do life the complicated way. She faced multiple medical challenges, including major airway, heart, and stomach surgeries, and many seizures. Calla spent her first 17 months of life in hospital - not quite the start anyone dreams of.

I met the amazing Moore family at church when Calla was 18 months old. Around that time, a documentary called Superhospital aired, sharing Calla’s story — including a very special moment for her first birthday. Thanks to CHAS, Lynne and Ali were able to take Calla outside for the very first time. Imagine spending a whole year indoors and finally getting out… how precious must that have been? 💝

Lynne and I quickly became great friends. In 2018, Calla became big sister to the wonderful Ailith. In true “life doesn’t do things by halves” fashion, Lynne was diagnosed with cancer during lockdown (because parenting through a pandemic wasn’t quite enough), went through treatment like the superhero she is, and Ali was made redundant from his job as a pilot. To say this family has been through a lot, is an understatement! Throughout life’s ups and downs, our families have been there for each other.

Calla lives at home, uses a wheelchair, has continuous oxygen, lots of medications, and requires 24/7 nursing care. It’s a full-on job — and that’s where CHAS comes in. When the family gets a chance for a wee breather, Calla can go into respite care at Robin House, run by CHAS.

Now here’s the jaw-dropping bit: despite all the odds, Calla has learned to walk in the past couple of years 💃🏼. The doctors said it wouldn’t happen, but clearly they didn’t factor in Calla’s sheer determination!

Calla is such a special girl, and Moray and I are honoured to call her (and Ailith!) our God-daughters. Our boys absolutely adore them. And guess what? Calla turns 10 this week — a whole decade of beating the odds. 🎉

Please, help me raise a ridiculous amount of money for CHAS — so they can keep doing their magical, life-changing work for families like Calla’s.
