RVS East Lothian Transport Fundraising

Jennifer Grimes is raising money for Royal Voluntary Service
In every corner of Britain, Royal Voluntary Service mobilises volunteers to support those in need, in hospital and the community. By inspiring the gift of voluntary service, we keep people happy, healthy and connected.

Story

Can you help more of our Volunteers go the extra mile for our clients? They are out and about driving local people to essential medical appointments.

Medical appointments are stressful enough without the worry of the time, connection challenges and access issues of public transport. For many in rural areas of East Lothian or for those with mobility issues, public transport is just not a practical option.

We ensure older patients get to GP, Nurse and hospital appointments. This is an essential service to hundreds of clients to manage their health conditions and continue to live a healthy lifestyle. Having regular, reliable transport also supports the NHS, by reducing the number of cancelled or “no-show” appointments which have a significant impact on operational running costs and budgets.

With increasing costs, we are looking to raise funds to grow this service, recruit more volunteers, and maintain low costs for our clients – and we’re hoping you can help!

We are looking to raise funds to:

• Subsidise volunteer mileage costs

• Purchase mobility aid equipment

• Purchase PPE for our volunteers

Here’s what some of our clients have to say about the service:

Mrs W, Dunbar: “ I have found the drivers to be very, very helpful. I’ve not had a driver yet where we’ve not struck up a good conversation with, and that’s very important, it really helps. I have found everyone to be very extremely helpful. I’ve been sent to different places for appointments so am very glad when you find me a driver, given the cost of taxis for the journey.”

Mrs N, Longniddry: I think it’s just wonderful, that’s all I can say about it. I couldn’t be without you.

Mrs N, Port Seton: I think you are worth every penny! The drivers have been brilliant and taken all the anxiety out (of my appointment). It’s so worthwhile! I don’t have to think about things.

Miss C, Musselburgh: ‘Once again I was grateful to the RVS cause if you weren’t taking me I just wouldn’t have gone’ on being taken to an appointment during storm Floris.
