Story
Three athletes, one team-triathlon and one great cause.
Sarah, Fran and Ren are attempting a team-sprint-triathlon to raise money for the wonderful Teatime Tours at the RWA – a programme supporting people living with dementia, and their carers, with art.
Teatime tours at the RWA
RWA Teatime Tours give people living with dementia, and their carers, the opportunity to enjoy the art we exhibit at the RWA as much as we do.
Each month (on a Tuesday) a specialist art facilitator welcomes a group for the tours and over a few hours in the galleries, they explore the artwork, enjoy some craft activities and finish it all off with a cup of tea, cake, and conversation.
Dementia touches so many families, including those of our own staff team. We sadly know how difficult and isolating it can be - not just for the person living with dementia, but also for the people who love them. We know how important the Teatime Tours are.
“When your partner lives with dementia, so do you, and it maybe that you will have to give up many activities that you used to enjoy. It is no longer practical for me to spend long days out with friends or go up to London for exhibitions, so it’s been lovely to feel part of the RWA ‘family’. It is also good to talk to other carers and share experiences and advice in this very friendly group” Teatime Tours participant
Why we need your help
Demand far outstrips what we can offer. For people living with dementia, and for the people who care for them, a simple afternoon of art, conversation and cake can mean the world. These are moments of joy, connection and confidence that might not happen otherwise.
Teatime Tours are free to attend, but they cost money to run. The money we raise will go directly to Teatime Tours with your support we could raise:
£500 will pay for bespoke Dementia friendly art material along with tea and cake for a year
£1000 will pay for specalist facilitors for 6 months
£2500 will pay for the programme for a whole year
Under Prepared and Over Ambitious
To raise money to ensure we can continue this work, we’re leaping into a sprint team triathlon to raise money for these tours. We are underprepared and over ambitious. What could go wrong?
Please help us continue to share the inspiration and joy of the RWA with this wonderful scheme so everyone has the chance to love this place as much as we do.
