It’s a sad reality that older people are particularly vulnerable to social isolation or loneliness owing to loss of friends and family, mobility or income. It can be a terrible and frightening experience to see no-one for days on end. Every one of us is getting older, and regardless of circumstance it is something that we will all have to contend with. Hopefully, most people have the benefit of friends and family to help them along life’s journey. Sadly, many older people living in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan do not have this security and are all alone facing the uncertainty that old age can often bring. They may be recovering from illness or bereavement, struggling to cope financially or cope in any one or a dozen of ways. At Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale they find practical help and advice and people who care about the challenges they face. Our local charity makes a huge difference to the lives of so many older people who have nowhere else to turn and often are vulnerable, isolated and in poverty.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Here’s the next challenge.

As some people may know me and my big bro lost our poppa around this time last year.

Soon after dad’s passing a neighbour messaged to say a way to make sure my father’s legacy lives long in everyone’s memory would be to do meaningful charity work. That really stuck with me and is the main reason I’m doing this run.

I’ll be attempting to run from my home town, Llanidloes to my now home, Cardiff. This will be around 90 miles and 140 odd kilometres. (Route to be confirmed)

I have no clue whether I can run this or what it’s going to be like to train for it but I tell you one thing, im gunna give it one hell of a belt.

I will be raising money for a charity which helps elderly people suffering with loneliness. Our father passed at the ripe old age of 87 and in those final years he did spend a lot of his time alone with Craig and I not being around as much as we would have loved to.

I appreciate we’re all in a little bit of a pickle financially right now so any donations no matter the amount would be much appreciated.

I’m sure dad will be howling up there watching me crawl my way around the Welsh countryside.

Many thanks in advance and all my love,Rags x
