Belfast City Marathon 2024 · 5 May 2024 ·

Willow is the only UK charity supporting seriously ill 16 to 40 year olds by providing unique and positive Special Days. Since 1999 Willow has fulfilled more than 22,000 Special Days for young adults living with life-threatening conditions such as cancer, motor neurone disease and cystic fibrosis.

Story

In April last year, our close friend David sadly passed away following his battle with cancer. Anyone that knew David will remember him for kindness, caring nature and his constant positivity, always having a smile on his face even through the tough days. The strength that David showed throughout his battle with cancer was awe inspiring and he continues to be an inspiration to everyone that knew him.

In May this year, Myself, Alastair, Simon, Matthew, Andrew and James are all taking on the challenge of running the Belfast Marathon in David's memory and this will be the first time any of us have ran a full marathon.

We will be running this to raise funds for Willow Foundation. This was a charity that was very close to David's heart and it is a charity that does amazing work for young adults that have been diagnosed with cancer. The Willow Foundation was set up by former Arsenal Goalkeeper and Football Focus commentator Bob Wilson in memory of his daughter Anna. Their aim is to help young adults take time away from their treatment to enjoy life's experiences by offering a range of different activities like special days out, breaks away or the chance to meet a lifelong hero.
