Story

This September marks the 2nd year of losing Bailey, and to keep his memory alive, I am taking on the Great North Run in Newcastle on the 13th September 2026, building in other training runs over the winter months ready for the London Marathon on Sunday 25th April 2027!.

Gem and I have a personal connection to Dystonia UK charity. Bailey lived with Dystonia for his entire life and while growing up we found this cruel, lifelong, little - known, misunderstood incurable medical condition was emotionally upsetting, painful, physically exhausting and incredibly challenging. We often wished we could see the world through Bailey's eyes.

What is Dystonia? Dystonia is the 3rd most common neurological movement disorder effecting over 100,000 children and adults in the UK.

What causes Dystonia? The cause of dystonia is not yet fully understood. In some cases, it can be attributed to a chemical imbalance in the part of the brain which helps to control movement called the basal ganglia.

Dystonia patients present uncontrollable persistent muscle movements which can last continuously for hours and sometimes days effecting any region of the body including the eyelids, face, jaw, vocal cords, torso, limbs, hands, and feet. It presents differently depending on the region of the body affected and each type has its own clinical name.

Bailey your memory lives on, and you will always be remembered as our shining light of inspiration.

Forever in our hearts. xx
