Story
1 in 2 of us will be diagnosed with cancer over our lives and for men, 1 in 8 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer (being the most commonly diagnosed cancer type in the UK). While these statistics are shocking, this became much more tangible for me in 2024 when my Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Fortunately, owing to the incredible science and some fantastic care, his treatment has been successful and he continues on his road to recovery.
Reflecting on the care he received, I am certain that he benefitted from the incredible work of Prostate Cancer UK. Donations to the charity are primarily used to fund research, including the development of new treatments and diagnostic tools. Aside from this their awareness campaigns have equally had a large impact in improving early diagnosis rates in recent years.
I am intending to take on three challenges over the next 9 months escalating in difficulty:
1) I will be completing the "Run 62 Miles" challenge in July (and to kick off the donations, I will be matching the first £150 of donations here with a separate donation to Cancer Research UK)
2) I will be running the Oxford Half Marathon on October 12th (which runs close to the hospital which treated my Dad!)
3) Finally I will be completing the Brighton marathon in Spring 2026
Any donations would be hugely appreciated!
