Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide. Every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives. And 75% of all UK suicides are male.

In August 2022, I (Ryan) received a call that my dad had made the decision to take his own life.

To me my dad was a larger than life character, he was always the man that would do anything for anyone, someone who knew everybody that could do anything, a typical trade dad.

My Dad always had a confidence that never faltered, always sure of who he was. “Ryan…”, he’d say, “…ya da’s mint”, often describing himself as “an absolute legend” .

But that was a confidence that covered the truth.

Too many people are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling in silence, Craig being one of them. If he were here today he’d be both proud and concerned that we had willingly signed up to run a race. But we want nothing more than to fund a cause that is so close to our hearts in the hope people get the support they need and everyone, but especially men, stop dying young.

CALM exists to change this by offering life saving services, provoking conversation and bringing people together to reject living miserably.
