Story
I am running the TCS London Marathon 2027 to raise money for the Firefighters Charity.
I have been an operational firefighter coming up to 4 years now.
Back in March of this year, I ran the Reading half marathon with two colleagues raising money for the charity. During this race I became serverly dehydrated and can’t remember finishing. I did however finish on 1hr 31 minutes. On the back of this I became quite unwell with Rhabdomylosis, something at the time I hadn’t heard of. I’m hoping to spread awareness, with the help of the Firefighters Charity, to other firefighters across the country about the physical and mental impacts this illness can have. The condition is caused by over exerting your muscles and is much more likely to occur in extreme heat conditions.
After 8 long weeks off the run I returned to operational duties in late May. I couldn’t have done this without the support of my family, friends and White Watch at Slough.
5 months have passed and I’ve just completed my first 21km training run in preparation for London. I’m back and I’m determined to be bigger, better and stronger for 2027 without chasing any PB’s.
The Firefighters Charity is something close to my heart therefore, I’m hoping to raise as much money as possible to help their vital services run. They provide specialist lifelong support for members of the UKs fire services community, empowering individuals to achieve mental, physical and social wellbeing throughout their lives. These services are available to firefighters and their families to assist in a variety of ways. The charity has 3 residential venues where operational or retired firefighters and control room members can use. The facilities are amazing and free to use whilst recovering from any physical injuries or mental health difficulties.
