Story
Hi,
My name is Sabina.
In 2018, I was diagnosed with Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), an autoimmune disease that slowly damaged my liver. The journey that followed was long, painful, and often uncertain.
In 2024, I was finally placed on the transplant list. Just three and a half months later, in June, I received the most precious gift of my life — a new liver.
There are no words strong enough to express my gratitude to my donor and their family. Because of their decision, I have been given a second chance at life.
I’m so grateful to say that I am now doing well. My new liver is working great, and I’ve even taken on a new challenge as a goalkeeper at my local field hockey club — something I never imagined would be possible during my toughest days.
Throughout this journey, Addenbrooke’s Hospital — especially the Liver Ward — has been there for me every step of the way. The care, compassion, and dedication of the team have meant more to me than I can ever fully express. Even now, as I attend regular check-ups, I am reminded how lucky I am to be in such capable hands.
As I begin to rebuild my life, I want to give something back.
To do this, I will be taking on a skydiving challenge to raise money for ALTA (Addenbrooke’s Liver Transplant Association), a charity that supports patients like me before, during, and after transplant.
If you are able to donate or share, it would mean the world to me. Thank you for being part of my journey 💚
