The Royal Parks is THE eco-friendly marathon. For the last 85 years, Diabetes UK has been at the forefront of diabetes research. We've discovered how to put type 2 diabetes into remission. And were working day in, day out to find a cure.

Story

My dad's name was Abhi Dighe. In 2019, he died at the age of 57 while I was in the last year of my undergraduate degree. Words cannot describe what it's like to lose a parent at such a young age.

He was diagnosed in his early twenties, and at the end of his life was on dialysis and on a list for a kidney transplant. He gave it a good shot having survived two heart attacks and a quadruple bypass. I miss him every day.

As South Asians, we are more at risk of developing type 2 Diabetes because we apparently store more fat around our middle (and maybe all that ghee?!). This risk can be as much as six times higher than that of Europeans.

I don't run. The last time I did, it was a 5k during COVID-19 and it took me an hour. But to keep myself at a lower risk of developing Diabetes, to remember my dad and to show that South Asians should move their bodies more, I'm giving a half marathon a go (lol).

Would really appreciate any donation, no matter how small.

Thank you so so SO much.

Sab xx
