At the age of 13, I discovered the incredible work of Molly Olly’s Wishes, following a diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. Overnight, my family’s lives changed completely as I began three years of treatment. A diagnosis of a serious illness marks the start of a frightening journey, one that continues through both treatment and remission. Weeks and months are spent in hospital, enduring painful treatments and facing the fear of an uncertain future. Children diagnosed with a serious illness not only go through this physical and emotional pain, but also miss the simple joys of childhood—running, laughing, playing, and going to school – experiences that should shape these formative years

To help ease these challenging times, Molly Olly’s Wishes grants approximately 650 wishes each year, providing a budget of around £500 to each child. These wishes can be in the form of toys, devices, play equipment, days out or unique experiences, offering children and their families much needed respite from the hospital environment. For parents seeing their child’s suffering, the chance to come together as a family and see their child smile, even for a moment, is priceless. Also, these wishes create precious memories; for some families, this may become one of their final treasured moments with their child.

Now, as a young woman, I have had time to grow from this experience and reflect on the invaluable work of organisations like Molly Olly’s Wishes, in making these journeys slightly more bearable. To support this cause, I will be completing the Seven Sisters Walk in January, a 22km walk along the English Channel coast. This effort is dedicated to fundraising for Molly Olly’s Wishes whilst also honouring the strength and resilience of children battling serious illnesses.

During times of illness, the importance of friendship cannot be overstated. For this reason, I will be walking alongside 14 of my closest friends - the women who supported me through these difficult moments and continue to be a constant source of love and strength in my life. As we take on this challenge together, our goal is not only to raise money for this special cause, but to also celebrate the beauty and connection behind genuine female friendships, a reminder that anything is possible if you have the right people by your side.
