Story
I'm taking part in the GNAAS GYRO event, cycling 60 miles in support of GNAAS and all the tremendous, life saving work they do.
In 2016 GNAAS provided emergency life saving care to my mum following a near fatal horse riding accident.
My mum Melanie was riding her horse Bonnie with my sister. Bonnie became spooked as they prepared to cross a river and my mum was thrown from Bonnie. It all happened really quickly, in the haste to get away Bonnie trampled over my mum and stood directly on her neck, this dissected one of her carotid arteries, leading to my mum having a stroke. The swift action of GNASS meant she was quickly air lifted to James Cook University Hospital.
My mum underwent a long recovery, she still has some slightly weakness on one side of her body but considering what she went through is absolutely remarkable and I am so proud of her.
GNAAS is a life changing charity, without the prompt response and emergency care provided by GNAAS the outcome could have been significantly different for my mum.
She truly is so lucky to be alive; me and my family owe that to GNAAS and are forever grateful.
I am proud to be able to support such a wonderful charity and hope to raise as much money as I can to support all the fantastic work GNAAS does.
