Story
For my 22nd birthday this year I will be running 10K for the charity “Verity” whom support research and funding into PCOS.
I spent years in the doctors and many hours seeing GPs, being medically gaslit and told “it’s normal” or “your fine” I live with chronic pain, fatigue and anxiety everyday because of this condition, there was a point I wasn’t able to leave my house meet friends or even go for walks due to how bad my anxiety was, I put on weight so fast and no matter how much I worked out I just couldn’t shift the weight I went from a size 8-16 in just a year and a half.
my periods were irregular and I was in extreme pain 3 weeks out of 4 , I would sleep for 8-12 hours and still wake up exhausted… this is just some of the many symptoms that 1000s of women struggle with and are told it’s “completely normal” or “your bloods have come back fine, it must be in your head” and the one that I was told the most “have you tried hormonal birth control?”
To this day I still live so much pain in my stomach and pelvic pain that never quite stops some days I can’t move from bed other days I’m throwing up with pain that feels like my stomach is going to explode then finally….
I was told I have suspected PCOS, I have started to mange my symptoms some days harder than others and now I understand my condition I am taking part in this 10k challenge to show that anything is possible and your body isn’t limited by your condition… I want to raise awareness about PCOS and the effects it has on people’s lives!
Thanks to charity’s like verity it is now possible for more research and fundings to go towards women’s healthcare and research.
I would love to hit my £150 target to support verity
