This May, I’ll be taking on a 220-mile solo hike across Scotland to raise money for Cumbria Ore Mines Rescue Unit (COMRU).

My challenge starts in Mallaig on the west coast and finishes at Dunnottar Castle on the east coast. I’ll be completely self-sufficient—carrying all my own equipment and food, sourcing water along the way, and hopefully finding some incredible spots to wild camp each night.

COMRU is an entirely volunteer-run team that provides a niche but vital service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The team operates across Cumbria and beyond, specialising in complex and technical rescues, particularly in hard-to-reach and confined environments.

The team is currently looking to purchase a Petzl Maestro to replace an ageing Petzl I'D. These are essential pieces of equipment used to build haulage systems, allowing us to safely raise casualties vertically in challenging rescue environments.

The Petzl Maestro is a specialist piece of kit, with a retail cost of around £475. As a team that relies entirely on donations, any contribution—no matter the size—would be hugely appreciated.
