Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 7th and 8th of June I'm swimming for 24 hours, 1km an hour, as part of Swim the Night's marathon swim. I'll swim 1km an hour every hour for 24 hours in an unheated lido, starting at 7am on Saturday and finishing at 7am on Sunday morning. It will be long, wet and cold!
If I finish it, 24km is the longest swim I'll have completed for many years.
I'm fundraising for WeSwim, a charity who are increasing the opportunities for people with disabilities to swim in London. Their volunteer-run clubs empower adults with disabilities to stay active, connect with others, and build lasting confidence.
I started volunteering at the Old Street club this year after having followed WeSwim on social media for a while.
As someone who spends so much time in water, and loves the many benefits it brings, I was really keen to be part of a club that enables others to do so, in a supportive fun and encouraging environment. As well as helping others benefit from the water, I have so much fun being part of a great group of diverse characters!
WeSwim is a lifeline for people with disabilities who really struggle to get active through typical leisure provision. 1 in 6 Londoners has a disability and WeSwim have a waiting list of over 120 people. This year, they are planning to open more clubs to get more people with disabilities into the water. It costs £10,000 to run each club for 6 months.
How your donations can help:
£5 could cover the costs of refreshments for our swimmers
£20 could cover the costs one volunteer’s DBS checks to get them started
£40 could cover the cost of an entire swim for person with disabilities
