'Snowdon for Sunrise' for Paces School 2023

Snowdon for Sunrise · 9 July 2023
Paces is a small, specialist non-maintained special school for children and young people affected by Cerebral Palsy and other neurological conditions. Families travel from all over Yorkshire and surrounding counties due to the uniquely wonderful community that Paces provides for our amazing children.
Paces' Conductive Education approach focuses on encouraging every student to become confident and independent, to develop their personality, and to 'never give up.'
A group of Paces' parents and their supportive friends and family are undertaking a challenge to raise funds for a sensory room for the school. This will benefit so many of the children in so many ways. Given that the majority of us are approaching 50, are completely novice climbers and not in the best shape of our lives, this is definitely a challenge! And just to make it a bit more tricky, we're climbing in the dark, through the night, with the hope of reaching the summit for sunrise!
This challenge is nothing however, compared to the daily hurdles that our children face and tackle head on every single day. The children of Paces School are shining examples to all, of what can be achieved in the most challenging of circumstances.
Here are a few words of some of the parents participating in the fundraising challenge:
"Luca's confidence has grown exponentially since starting Paces, aswell as making improvements physically and academically. In doing this challenge, I hope to give back a fraction of the gratitude I have for the care and attention the school provides to families daily"
"Paces is like an extended family. I don't know what we would do without them. Isaac started in the outreach programme and it's definitely the best environment for him to strive and reach his potential"
"For Matheus, Conductive Education is the best approach for him. Focusing on the feeling of being capable, loved, listened to, safe, confident, respected, increasing his self-esteem and many achievements"
"Paces enables Elliott to achive his full potential. Its a large and growing family who we are proud to be part of. To be able to give back just a little part of what they've done for Elliott iis our aim with this challenge"
"Since starting Paces, Charlotte's confidence and self-esteem has vastly increased. Her pride in what she can do and achieve at Paces makes us truly thankful that this amazing school exists for our incredible children"
"Lennie has been supported by Paces since he was 2 years old. It's part of our family. Paces is so much more than a school. Its ethos teaches the whole family about the potential of our children. It does this in the most nurturing, empathic and inclusive way"
"As a family we get so much support from Paces. Owen gets so much physical input and is academically thriving too. The staff are so hardworking and dedicated and it really shows in just how happy everyone is at the school"
"From the very first day that Mia started at Paces in 2011, we knew this was where she was supposed to be. Today, Mia is a confident and fun loving teenager who never stops achieving. This is down to the hard work and the dedication of the Paces team. Simply amazing!
We will be training hard over the next few weeks. We would be so very grateful for any sponsorship that people can spare for our challenge.
