Cycling from London to Lisbon · 12 April 2024

We refurbish second-hand bikes and donate them to refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK. With some refugees surviving on as little as £8.86 per week, a bike serves as a vital tool to access essentials like food, healthcare and legal advice, build confidence and form part of a community.

Story

On April the 12th, I will be setting off to cycle from London to Lisbon. I'll be taking my tiny tent on this solo adventure, with the aim to live as self sufficiently as possible. Riding a bike has always been a means of achieving independence and freedom; which is why I have chosen to fundraise for The Bike Project. Here is what they have to say about the power of the bike:

"Imagine living on £37 a week. It's enough for food, perhaps, but what about travel? If you need a new pair of shoes, what sacrifices will you have to make? These hard choices are the daily reality of a refugee in London.

Bikes to the Rescue! We take second-hand bikes, fix them up and donate them to refugees and asylum-seekers. Why? One of our bikes can save a refugee £21 a week in bus fares. Having fled persecution and atrocity in their homeland, a bike helps them access food banks, legal advice, healthcare, education and more."

I'd love it if you could support this cause with a small donation. Thank you!
