Story

In April 2026, I’ll be running the London Marathon for a cause that’s incredibly close to my heart: Group B Strep Support, in honour of my brave nephew, Olly.

This charity means a lot to me and my partner’s family. When Olly was born in 2019, what should have been a joyful moment quickly turned into a terrifying one.

Within hours of his birth, Olly became seriously unwell. Despite early concerns being dismissed, he was eventually rushed to neonatal intensive care. He had contracted Group B Strep (GBS) during delivery, a common but potentially life-threatening infection. He ended up fighting pneumonia, sepsis, a collapsed lung, and multiple organ infections, all before he was even a day old.

Thankfully, after a week in intensive care, Olly pulled through and today he’s a happy, thriving 6-year-old. But that week left a permanent mark on everyone who loves him. His mum, Ania, has been campaigning ever since to raise awareness of GBS and push for routine testing during pregnancy, a simple £39 test that could prevent outcomes like Olly’s.

GBS Support is the only UK charity dedicated to this cause. They provide guidance for families, campaign for policy change, and work to ensure no baby suffers needlessly from this preventable infection.

I’ve been lucky enough to be part of Olly’s life since he was tiny and I’m so proud to be running this marathon in honour of him. I might not be an uncle by blood, but he’s my nephew in every way that counts.

Please consider donating to support this amazing charity and help protect more babies like Olly. Every pound genuinely makes a difference.

Thank you so much.
