Challenge Wales offers transformative personal development activities for young people aged 12 - 25 years to enable them to develop to their full potential. Mainly working with disadvantaged and vulnerable young people the charity achieves this through activities at sea onboard its vessels.

Story

Challenge Wales, a predominantly volunteer-run charity, provides inclusive & transformative outdoor learning opportunities at sea through sailing Challenge Wales | Wales’ Tall Ship. Working with young people age 12 – 25 years, sail training helps improve young people’s life skills, employability skills, confidence and resilience. It improves young people’s mental health, introduces them to environmental sustainability and helping to create a brighter future for them. The charity works with a diverse range of young people including young carers, those at risk of being homeless, those who face severe financial and social disadvantage and those who struggle to have opportunities. Challenge Wales receives no government grants, and with the ongoing impact of the cost-of-living crisis, has to fundraise continuously to; ensure bursaries are available for those who can’t afford the experience; the quality of the charity’s services is maintained through training, volunteer development and outreach work; keep the boat ship shape by ensuring safety equipment is maintained. Every donation, no matter how small, can help make a difference.

Help us sail into the digital age!

To help us continue inspiring, empowering and better sharing our story & impact we need to upgrade our media equipment. A new mobile phone, case and charging deck (£350ex vat), will help us share the incredible journey young people go and show the positive changes we bring to young lives. It will also enable additional communications between parents, volunteers sea-staff, young people and the Challenge Wales office team once the boat leaves port.

A 5G Marine Router with cabling (£1,718ex vat) will help Challenge Wales have reliable internet onboard up to 25 nautical miles offshore, ensuring the boat stays connected for safety, planning and sharing our journey. It will also help the charity to seamlessly download navigational system updates to keep us on course.

A Smart TV with wall mount (£182ex vat) will allow Challenge Wales to transform the living area below deck into an interactive classroom, enabling educational videos, training apps and resources to be played. Learning about charts, navigation, ocean literacy, citizen science activities, tides and the weather will now be run in our ‘classroom’ enabling everyone to participate and enhance the charity’s capacity to develop and deliver its training courses and accredited learning.

Your donation will help Challenge Wales stay connected in a modern world and help shape the lives of young people in a positive way. Thank you for your support!
