Story
On the 26th April I will be walking 10 miles with 3 wonderful friends in support of raising awareness and donations for Breast Cancer.
In the summer of August 2023 me and the girls went on a weekend trip to the beach with my friend Hannah and her two boys… over that weekend we both shared that both of our mums had had breast cancer and won, we had both done various walks and runs to not only raise money for cancer but also help us focus the mind whilst observing the treatment of a loved one. In that moment we both made a pack that at the age of 40 we would be proactive and get a mammogram did a cheers 🥂and that was that!
Fast forward to November 2023, I was in a meeting in London and a message flashes up on my phone from Hannah ‘Not good news, They did an ultrasound and biopsy and confirmed there’s cancer WTAF!’
Indeed WTAF…I was in shock so have no idea how she was feeling and her husband, she had no symptoms, she was just 40, healthy and fit and was being proactive was almost a tick box health check and peace of mind! It wasn’t actually suppose to find anything!
I think like most people in the heavy news of finding out you have cancer, Hannah went in to ultimate stealth mode…. She fought hard and strong, through her operations and radiotherapy, all whilst being self employed, mum of two young boys, a wife and a wonderful friend!! Looking back her strength and determination to beat cancer was undeniable
3 months after Hannah, Feb 2024 I had my own scare with breast cancer… 6 months before my 40th birthday I found a lump in my left boob…. that wasn’t part of our deal we had done a cheers on either! For me, after my mammogram I got the all clear… just a fatty lump nothing to be worried about! Never ever have I been so relieved…. I was also very thankful for my work private health care within less that two days from making the first call I had been seen by the specialists, had all the checks and confirmed I was OK!
Over the years I have know many close friends or friends of friends that have been in the same situation in their 30s and early 40s and have either have caught it early and had succesful treatment or have had it confirmed that it’s all ok! Some have not and have been taken from us way too soon 💫
CHECK your BOOBS…. Know your body…. Go to your GP …book a private appointment if you can afford it…. Share your experiences, your stories, be there for each other … make a pack ….
Cancer is a bi!ch but it’s defo easier together… and that is why on the 26th April Nicky, Kath and I will be walking 10 miles shoulder to shoulder with you Hannah as ‘Hannah’s Horsell Hero’s’
