Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.

Story

The Challenge

The London Marathon has always been a challenge I have dreamed of taking on and 2024 is the year this dream is to become a reality.

I've always been a keen athlete but I know how challenging my 1st Marathon will be. Whilst I have been really lucky in gaining a ballot place, I have decided to use this opportunity to run and raise money for Brain Tumour Research which will give me extra motivation to give it my best!

The Reason

Brain Tumour Research is a charity that is close to my Heart as my best friend Ross lost his dad Paul in 2020 from this awful disease after a short and courageous battle aged just 59. Paul was a great man who lived life to the full and was taken far too soon.

In addition my work colleague has been affected by this disease, losing her best friend aged just 41 from a Brain Tumour. Alison together with a group of her close friends run “Shells Belles” which is an authorised group raising money and awareness for Brain Tumour Research and to date they have raised over £20000. It’s through Shells Belles that I have become aware of the lack of funding for research into Brain Tumours.

The Charity

Brain tumours are indiscriminate; they can affect anyone at any age. What’s more, they kill more children and young adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer but historically less than 2% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this dreadful disease.
