Story
Later this week I’ll be trekking 100km through South Africa’s Drakensberg Mountains with 10 other women as part of the HER Planet Earth team. For six days we’ll be on foot in a remote, high-altitude range – carrying all our own gear, navigating steep ascents and rough trails. It’s a serious personal challenge with a brilliant purpose.
I’m raising funds for Helping Rhinos to support the Black Mambas – the world’s first all-female, unarmed anti-poaching unit. These remarkable women patrol on foot, remove snares, deter poachers and teach conservation in local schools and communities. Since 2013 their persistence has cut poaching in their area by more than 60%, proving that when women lead, protection on the ground improves.
Our team goal is to raise US$50,000 to fund training, field equipment and community outreach that strengthens the Black Mambas’ impact. If you’re able to donate, any amount will help turn this trek into practical support where it matters most.
Thank you!
Sam
