Sam's fundraiser for Brain Research UK

Sam Cook is raising money for Brain Research UK

The Big Half 2026 · 6 September 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

The brain is the most complex organ in our body. It controls our emotions, senses and actions. So when it breaks down, we break down. We fund the best research to discover the causes, develop new treatments and improve the lives of those affected. Let’s unite to accelerate progress. Today.

Story

On September 6th, I’ll be running my first half marathon to raise money for Brain Research UK, in loving memory of my Nanny Norma who very sadly passed away at the start of August.

This cause is particularly close to my heart as my dear Nan had Alzheimer’s. Following a bad fall in May 2018, Nan gradually started to become noticeably unwell, often becoming very confused and forgetting everyday things. Heartbreakingly Nan was unable to communicate with us or knew her own family for the past two years. She was the matriarch of our family and seeing her become so poorly was incredibly upsetting for all her family and friends. We know she is at peace now and the old Norma, my beloved Nan, would have hated all the fuss!

Around 1 in 6 people are affected by a neurological condition. Brain Research UK funds vital research into conditions such as brain tumours, epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s disease—helping to improve diagnosis, develop new treatments, and change lives.

Any small donation would truly mean so much to me and the charity—thank you for helping make a difference!
