Petals are a specialist charity service that provide life-changing support and counselling for parents who have suffered the devastating loss of a baby during pregnancy.

Many of you won’t know Nadia (my wife) and I’s story, as I’ve never really opened up on this subject.

Around 4 years ago, Nadia was taken into hospital after severely bleeding, and rushed immediately into surgery, as she was suffering an ectopic pregnancy which became life threatening due to a ruptured fallopian tube. Ectopic pregnancy is the leading cause of maternal death in early pregnancy in the UK.

The same day we found out Nadia was pregnant, we also sadly lost our baby and I also nearly lost my wife. Without the speedy help of the surgical team at West Suffolk Hospital, my whole family could have been ripped apart even more so than it already was!

We reached out to Petals in our time of need and they provided us with the most amazing care, attention and patience. Our counsellor was often able to fit counselling sessions around my little one’s bed time enabling Nadia and I to communicate openly, navigate the grief and loss of our baby, and more importantly give us hope for the future.

I truly believe the intervention sessions saved our family and my marriage. We became stronger, more united and powerful together as a unit! Our counsellor Jane was just incredible, and I owe her everything!

The reality of the situation is frightening, 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage, 1 in 200 babies are stillborn each year, more than 5,000 pregnancies are ended for medical reasons annually, and every single week, 24 babies die shortly after birth. These aren’t just numbers - they represent families, friends, and lives changed forever.
