Story
Hi Everyone,
I am participating in the Market Drayton 10k race on the 11th May 2025.
I have decided to raise funds for a charity that is very close to home. Since the birth of our son Freddie in 2020, Amy has been in constant pain almost every month leading up to her cycle. After doctor appointments and checks for every condition under the sun, she decided the only way to get what she needed was through a private consultation, fast forward to Jan 2024 in hospital after a Laparoscopy she was finally diagnosed with endometriosis almost a 4 year battle of constant pain. Amy will be classed as one of the ‘lucky’ ones as it can take up to 8 years just to be diagnosed with this condition. I am so immensely proud of Amy and the battle she had to get her diagnosis that I want to give something back to Endometriosis Uk.
Here are the facts that we currently know about the condition;
- 1 in 10 women and those assigned female of birth of reproductive age in the UK suffer from endometriosis.
- Endometriosis affects 1.5 million women and those assigned female at birth, a similar number of those affected by diabetes.
- On average it takes 8 years 10 months from the first GP visit to get a diagnosis.
There is so much more to learn about this condition as currently the cause of this is unknown and there is no definite cure.
I hope to raise as much as possible with the help of you to spread awareness to other women that may also have this condition and it is unknown to them and in the hope that in the future if my daughter has to go through the same battle it would be much easier to get a diagnosis and help of a cure.
Thank you
Sam
