Sam's fundraiser for Teenage Cancer Trust

Sam Hargreave is raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust

24 hour cycle for Teenage Cancer Trust · 6 March 2026

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

As some of you may be aware, I was diagnosed with testicular cancer on the 11th of August 2025. After recently having surgery and completing chemotherapy treatment and now being in remission and beginning to resume normal life. I am now looking to give back to the amazing people at the Teenage Cancer Trust.

They have supported me and my family through this period and provide amazing services in teenage cancer wards in many hospitals in the uk. With social spaces, TVs, consoles and many other benefits provided by TCT. These help make the journey of treatment much easier.

The event will be taking place at Alnwick rugby club, starting at 2pm on the 6th of March and completing 2pm on the 7th, matching up to kick off of all games being played on that day. Anyone is welcome to come and cycle for as long as you please any support is greatly appreciated.

A group of my close friends will be attempting to cycle on an exercise bike for 24 hours in aid of the TCT. They have all written a few words on why they are taking part with me!

Lottie:

I am very lucky to be able to take part in this fundraiser to give something back to the Teenage Cancer Trust. They gave Sam immense amounts of support and many other teenagers in similar situations. I appreciate the opportunity to give back to a charity which has given so much to Sam.

Olly:

I am happily taking part in this challenge in order to raise money for the TCT charity, but also to raise awareness about cancer which affects the majority of people. I have seen how the TCT charity’s efforts has helped to improve a negative situation and made it that little bit easier. Thank you to all who have or are going to donate to this good cause.

Will:

I am very happy to be joining Sam with this challenge for TCT, it is a great cause which has helped him lots in the past 6 months. Any donations would be greatly appreciated by ourselves, the charity and I’m sure any future beneficiaries of their work

The money raised in my fundraiser will be restricted to the TCT wards in the Freeman and the RVI in Newcastle as these are the places which have supported me.

Heather Bowen, Teenage Cancer Trust explains :

“We exist because cancer care wasn’t made for young people. Without us, a young person diagnosed with cancer today would find themselves lumped together with small children or much older adults.

You only get one chance at being young, and those years shape the person you become. Friendships, mental health, body image, studies, work, relationships and choices about the future are hard enough to navigate – before a cancer diagnosis shatters everything.

We provide the sensitive, individual care and support young people need at the toughest and scariest time they’ve ever faced – so they can get through cancer, rebuild their life and shape their own future

Please do support Sam and his friends in their quest to give back to the unit and the front line staff, so that other young people who come through our doors, receive the same care and support that Sam and his family did, thank you”
