We’re Taking on the National 3 Peaks Challenge for MIND — In Memory of Olly
On 28th June, my friends and I — Ben, Jabe, Pete, Matt, Martin and myself (Sam) — will be attempting the National 3 Peaks Challenge: climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon within 24 hours.
This isn’t just a charity endurance challenge for us. We’re doing this in memory of Olly Marmon, who tragically lost his life last year at such a young age. Olly was Ben’s brother — and a part of all of our lives. He was bubbly, friendly, kind, and always the one to make people laugh. It’s hard to put into words how much he meant to so many. His loss is deeply felt, but we’re proud to be doing something positive he would have loved to be involved with.
We’re raising money for MIND, a charity that supports mental health across the UK. Over the past year, I’ve worked with life coaches and sports psychologists, and opened up to friends, family and even colleagues. I’m lucky to have that support network — but many people don’t. Suicide remains the biggest killer of men under 35 in the UK. The work that MIND does — providing advice, support and someone to talk to — quite literally saves lives.
This challenge is our way of doing something. It’s a way to show that change starts with talking, with listening, and with looking out for each other. We’ve been up at sunrise hiking and practicing wherever we can between our hectic schedules. It’s been hard, but it’s nothing compared to what some people go through every day in silence.
If you’re able to donate — no matter how small — it would mean the world to us. Every penny goes towards helping someone who might be struggling right now.
Thank you for reading, and please remember: you’re never alone. Talk, reach out, and keep an eye on those around you.
Let’s climb together — for everyone who needs support.
Please donate if you can, and help us support MIND’s life-saving work.
