Story
Mental health is fundamental to our overall wellbeing, shaping how we think, feel, act and connect with the world around us. That is why recognising mental health challenges, encouraging open conversations and ensuring that people can access the support they need is so important.
On 5 May 2012, Jenny Rayner and her family experienced an unimaginable loss when their daughter, Lucy, died by suicide at the age of 22.
In the aftermath of Lucy’s death, Jenny and her family became determined to raise awareness of the mental health challenges facing young adults. Through their experience, they discovered significant gaps in the support available to young people experiencing mental health difficulties, as well as the urgent need for greater awareness, early intervention and investment in mental health services.
Jenny soon realised that this determination to create change was shared by many others. Drawing on more than 30 years of experience in marketing, media and event management, alongside her business and entrepreneurial skills, she began using her experience to bring people together, raise awareness and help ensure that young people struggling with their mental health are seen, heard and supported.
Lucy’s story became the driving force behind a mission to create meaningful change and help prevent other families from experiencing the same devastating loss.
I'm really pleased to be running the Oxford Half in support of such an important cause. The work being done to raise awareness of mental health and support young people is incredibly valuable, and I'm proud to be able to play a small part in helping. If you're able to donate, I'd be hugely grateful for your support.
