We educate on gaming and gambling to safeguard young and vulnerable people

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Saturday 3rd August, I'll be taking part in the "Ultra Loop" where I will attempt to run as many 5km loops within 8 hours at Temple Newsam in Leeds.

This year, Ygam celebrates its 10 year anniversary since being founded. I'm lucky to have been part of the journey and hope my fundraising goes someway in raising awareness of the harms associated with gambling.

Ygam was established in 2014 as a result of the lived experience of our founders. After suffering for over 25 years with a gambling addiction, Alan Lockhart died by suicide in 2010 at the age of 40. His mother Anne, a former teacher, founded the charity with her husband Keith and Lee Willows. Together they were determined to use education as a tool to raise awareness and help safeguard future generations against gaming and gambling harms.

Our mission is clear: to prevent children and young people from experiencing gaming and gambling harms through awareness raising, education and research. Prevention of these harms may not always be at the top of the pile of public health priorities; nevertheless, they are an increasingly essential part of protecting young people growing up in a digital world. And we know that prevention is always better than cure.
