Story

I am running the London Marathon 2024 to raise money for Spinal Research!

Someone sustains a spinal cord injury every four hours in the UK, and it's a cause close to my heart having seen two relatives live through the experience.

Most recently my wife's Aunty Martha suffered a spinal cord injury when she slipped at home in August 2022. During her subsequent 15 months in hospital she recovered well but has had to adjust to a very different normal.

Emma and I were extremely moved by the patients we met during visits to see Martha. It amazed us that, young and old, they generally remained in high spirits despite very challenging circumstances.

Spinal Research is the UKs leading medical charity focused on the repair and restoration of the spinal cord, and they exist to beat paralysis.

For me this is an inspiring goal and will keep me grafting away on the dark winter nights!

All of the projects run by Spinal Research are funded by donations so I I’d be extremely grateful if you could make a contribution (no matter how small) to their work for the year ahead.

For the finance people amongst you, I’m very happy to introduce some time based ratchets to make things interesting – base case for me is sub 4 hours with the upside case sub 3h 40 mins (levers difficult to quantify – underwriting confidence low!).

Thanks in advance for your support,

Sam
