Story
Hey guys👋🏽 myself (Martha Sheen, Co Owner of The Manchester Wax Company) and Sam Hulme (owner of Hulme Dog Fitness) are doing a 24 hour walk for The Bone Cancer Research Trust.
We are doing a 24 Hour Treadmill walk at Anytime Fitness gym. Our aim is to walk at an average pace of 4.2km (which works out at around 100km in total).
A little bit about it all.
Sam is quite passionate about participating in charity events, he has previously raised money for Cancer Research UK, Stretford Food Bank, The Little Green Sock Project and Toy House Flixton. He has done multiple events such as shaving of his Afro, charity fitness classes and also entering a weight lifting competition.
When I’m (Martha) not making candles, I work on a haematology and oncology unit as a full time nurse at Trafford General Hospital (the birth place of the NHS). I am very passionate about engaging in charity events and have previously fundraiser for organisations such as The Brain Tumour Society, Cancer Research UK and Dementia UK.
Sam and I have been friends for years but in 2020 Sam became my personal trainer and our friendship has blossomed from there. We wanted to push ourselves this year, whilst also raising money for a charity of our choice. After much discussion we decided The Bone Cancer Research Trust was the one for us and specifically chose Jude’s Fund due to come personal links with Jude’s friends and family.

Jude was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his right arm when he was 11. Devastatingly, he had many secondary tumours on his lungs. We knew he had a tough fight ahead, but we had hope that if anyone could make it, Jude could.
Judes first symptom was in February 2017, diagnosed officially in April 2017 and he died in February 2018. It is incredibly difficult. Theres a big hole in our lives. He was a lovely boy and we just miss him. He has three younger brothers who are missing their amazing and brave big brother.
When we were thrust into this terrible world of childhood cancer we assumed that Jude would have the very latest treatments available, but we soon realised that for bone cancer, there are no latest treatments. We just want to see the same improvements in outcomes and treatments that there have been found for other cancers, to help other patients diagnosed with bone cancer like Jude. Supporting the work of The Bone Cancer Research Trust means everything to us.
