Story
Lucas’ Story 💛
Lucas was diagnosed with Biliary atresia at just three weeks old.
As new parents, our world turned upside down almost overnight. Biliary atresia is a rare and life-threatening liver condition that affects babies, blocking or damaging the bile ducts and causing liver failure.
At just a few weeks old, Lucas underwent major surgery called the Kasai procedure in the hope of restoring bile flow and saving his liver.
We hoped it would be enough.
Sadly, the Kasai procedure didn’t fully work.
Over the next months, Lucas became critically unwell time and time again. He was admitted to hospital repeatedly and battled sepsis an unimaginable nine times. Each admission was terrifying. We lived in constant fear, never knowing what the next phone call or hospital visit would bring.
Then, at just 18 months old, Lucas received the gift that saved his life.
He underwent a life saving liver transplant.
His donor was his Daddy.
In an extraordinary twist of fate and love, Daddy was a match. He made the selfless decision to donate part of his liver to save his little boy. Thanks to that incredible act of love, Lucas was given a second chance at life.
Now they quite literally share a bond like no other they share a liver, a scar, and a story that will connect them forever.
Where We Are Now 💚
Life after transplant hasn’t been without challenges medications, monitoring, hospital appointments, and careful management are part of everyday life. But today, Lucas is thriving.
He is strong. He is determined. He is living proof of the power of organ donation.
Taking part in the British Transplant Games is Lucas’ way of celebrating life, honouring his donor, and showing what transplant children can achieve.
Why Your Support Matters
By donating, you are:
