Story
I will be running the Manchester Marathon in April 2025 to fundraise for the North West Air Ambulance Charity 🚁
The North West Air Ambulance Charity's helicopters and rapid response vehicles operate 365 days a year, with highly skilled specialist doctors and Critical Care Paramedics on board providing enhanced pre-hospital care and hospital transfers to patients across the entire North West region. Each year they cover an area of approx 5,500 square miles and over 8 million people. Since it launched in 1999, the charity has been called to over 45,000 missions across the region, with the service called out an average of three times a day.
What many people do not realise is that it is NOT an NHS funded service, they rely solely on donations to keep running.
I have witnessed the amazing work that the charity provides by caring for patients in ED who have arrived via air ambulance and many of those patients wouldn’t be here today without the service that they provide.
Any donation, big or small would be greatly appreciated. These are examples of what a donation would go towards:
· £6 can pay for a bougie to help guide a breathing tube into a patient airway.
· £17 could buy a one-litre portable oxygen canister to help someone with breathing difficulties.
· £25 could pay for a warming blanket to help regulate the temperature of a severe trauma patient.
· £50 could fund one set of Rapid Sequence Intubation (RS) drugs, used by the crew to manage a patient’s airway.
