Sam & Eric's fundraiser for Vision Support

Samantha Redfern is raising money for Vision Support

Chester Marathon 2025 · 5 October 2025 ·

Vision Support is the leading provider of local services to people of all ages living with a vision impairment in Cheshire and North Wales. Our mission is to promote the continuing independence of individuals living with sight loss and to raise awareness of their needs throughout our local communities.

Story

In October we will be running our first marathon and have chosen to fundraise for Vision Support. We'd love it if you could let us know your favourite track so that we can add it to our playlist and think of you while we are running.

This is why we are running....

This is Anna, our incredible daughter. Anna was born with dense bi-lateral cataracts in both eyes which meant that she had no sight as a baby. These were removed at 5 months old, and whilst her sight improved, it was not able to develop as it should. Anna is visually impaired and faces a range of challenges. Yet, because as parents we had the support of charities like Vision Support, we were able to understand how the world could work for Anna.

As a parent with a visually impaired child, you can spend a lot of time in hospital, worrying about what the future holds, but advice from those who understand this means the world. Everything from accessing large print children's books to adjustments she needed in the working world, accessible equipment, emotional support and access to sports to name just a small selection of the things we were advised on.

The result....this is Anna graduating from Cambridge last year with a first class degree in Human, Social & Political Sciences. She now works in government policy and is working hard to make a difference to the world. We cannot be more proud or grateful for the support she has received over the years.

Without fundraising, this support would not be able to impact the lives of ordinary people like us, so please support in any way you can.
