Samantha's fundraiser for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·
I’m running the London Marathon in 2025 for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation in memory of my Uncle Rob who sadly passed away a few weeks ago, a month after his 59th birthday.
My Uncle was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in 2022, which led to having part of his lung removed and a course of chemotherapy, we were all glad that the treatment had been a success and he was in remission.
Unfortunately early this year the cancer returned. My Uncle was told it was terminal but he would have more chemotherapy to manage it. Rob was so positive about the news and truely believed he had many years ahead of him.
In April I said I was going to apply for a charity place with Roy Castles Lung Cancer Foundation to run for him, expecting that he would still be here to witness it. Unfortunately this was not meant to be, we received the news in May that the cancer had spread and he was given months to live, those months turned out to be a mere 6 weeks.
I used to do a bit of running many years ago, but it has probably been over 10 years since I last ran more than 10km. At the age of 48 I know the training is going to be hard and at times I will think I can’t do it, but I know my Uncle Rob will be there in spirit to spur me on.
Lung Cancer kills more people than breast, bowel and prostate cancer combined, yet only receives 6% of research funding! The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation supports families affected by lung cancer and funds research into this dreadful disease.
Please help me raise as much money as possible for this charity, so that we can help to find a cure and stop other families having to suffer.
Thanks Sam xxx
