CMV Action is a UK organisation of parents and volunteers, who have come together to support families, to raise public awareness of congenital CMV, and campaign for better prevention measures within our health service. We offer advice, support and friendship to anyone affected by congenital CMV, advocating for families and working with a number of medical professionals who have an interest in this field.

Story

Im fighting again on 16th November, at brymbo enterprise centre.

This time my chosen charity is CMV action.

During pregnancy my partner had cough and cold symptoms, we later discovered it was more than a cold.

this virus can be asymptomatic and have no long lasting effects in the worst case it can cause cerebral palsy and other severe learning disabilities, in my case when my daughter was born she was referred to the infectious diseases department in alder hey to be monitored, but was later discharged.

it has affected my daughters hearing, eye sight and slower development but she’s the most perfect little girl you’d ever know, she has routine tests every 6 months for her hearing and she’s slowly improving but still unsure of the future.

it’s a common virus but isn’t routinely tested for in pregnancy so when we found out she may have it, it was a massive shock to us and we were so unsure of the outcome as there isn’t much to read up about to prepare yourself.

So the more fund raising this little charity gets that more it will benefit other babies and pregnant women in the future. Let’s do this🥊
