Sami's fundraiser for Cure Parkinson’s

Sami Robertson is raising money for Cure Parkinson’s

Swim round the Cook Strait and the Isle of Wight · 19 July 2026

We’re here for the cure. Cure Parkinson’s is working with urgency to find new treatments to slow, stop and reverse Parkinson’s.

Story

In March 2026 I will embark on the Cook Strait swim in New Zealand which is part of the Oceans 7 Challenge. Swimming between the North and South Island can be extremely difficult due to the cold rough water -and unpredictable tidal currents, something I witnessed myself as a teenager. I’ve always wanted to do this challenge and have been applying to get a place since 2018 so am excited (and nervous) to get my chance to attempt it!

In July 2026, I am also taking part in the challenge of swimming around the Isle of Wight (71 miles in total) as part of a relay team comprising my great swimming buddies, Stu, Alan, Pete and Nick to raise funds for Cure Parkinson's. This swim is especially meaningful to me as it is where my parents ashes were scattered in the sea, my mum was originally from the island. We'll be supported by John Caulcutt a great family friend and experienced pilot who has been an incredible support to my family.

John was diagnosed with Parkinson's a while back and after raising nearly £19K for MND research through my swim around Manhattan, I wanted to help support the research towards finding a cure. Any donation you make will support this cause and mean the world to me, John and everyone else who is suffering from this disease.

Cure Parkinson's are here for the cure. Cure Parkinson’s is working with urgency to find new treatments to slow, stop and reverse Parkinson’s.Their funding and innovation has redefined the field of Parkinson’s research, enabling the world’s leading researchers to prioritise the next generation of drugs for clinical trial. Together we will conquer Parkinson’s.
