Trek the Sahara with St Clare Hospice · 8 October 2026

In October 2026, an incredible team of fundraisers will set out on an unforgettable journey across the Sahara Desert to raise vital funds for St Clare Hospice. Support their journey and make every step count!

Story

In October 2026, we’ll be stepping far outside our comfort zones and deep into the Sahara Desert to raise vital funds for St Clare Hospice.

Over four unforgettable (and probably exhausting!) days, we’ll trek around 50 km across Morocco’s breathtaking desert landscapes — from ancient dried riverbeds to rolling sand dunes. We’ll sleep under the stars, be guided by local Berber experts, and rely on each other (and plenty of determination) to reach the end.

It’s a challenge of endurance, teamwork, and heart — and we’re doing it for a cause that truly matters.

The Challenge 💪

Over 4 days, we will trek roughly 50 km across Morocco’s desert terrain — from ancient riverbeds to soaring dunes. We’ll camp under the stars, rely on Berber guides, and be supported throughout the journey with meals, tents, and local logistics organised by the St Clare Hospice team.

It’s going to be tough one, but we know every step will be worth it!

The Itinerary 🌍

Day 1 – Thu 8 Oct: UK → Marrakech

Fly to Marrakech and meet our guides. Depending on arrival time, we may head straight to Ouarzazate to rest up for the adventure ahead.

Day 2 – Fri 9 Oct: Into the Sahara

Cross the mighty Atlas Mountains, following ancient caravan routes into the desert. Meet our Berber team and camels, then start our first trek — ending with a night camping under the stars. (~5 km)

Days 3–4 – Sat 10 & Sun 11 Oct: Deep Desert Trekking

Two full days trekking through sweeping dunes and rocky plains — around 15–20 km a day. We’ll learn desert survival skills, share meals by the fire, and sleep beneath a sky full of stars.

Day 5 – Mon 12 Oct: Farewell Sahara

Trek the final stretch (~5 km) to a local village before saying goodbye to our incredible crew. Then it’s a long drive back to Marrakech (approx. 9 hrs).

Day 6 – Tue 13 Oct: Marrakech → UK

Enjoy some free time exploring Marrakech before flying home — tired, sandy, and proud!

Why St Clare Hospice 💛

St Clare Hospice provides vital support to people facing life-limiting illnesses and their families, offering care that can’t always be found elsewhere. We witnessed this firsthand through the compassion they showed to Sammie’s dad, Gordon Porter, last year.

Gordon sadly passed away in December 2024, following a cancer diagnosis in 2022. He was referred to the St Clare team and, during this time, required two inpatient stays to help manage his pain. In his final months, the hospice provided Gordon with palliative and hospice-at-home care. It was Gordon’s wish to spend his final days at home, and St Clare made this possible, with nurses caring for him in the comfort of his own home.

By fundraising for them, we hope to help sustain their services so that more people and their loved ones can receive the dignity, comfort, and compassion they deserve.

Our goal 🌟

Fundraising target of £4,000 (£2,000 each)

Funds raised will go directly to St Clare Hospice, helping them continue their incredible work in our community.
