Story
I can’t believe I’m actually writing this.
Not because I’m running the London Marathon, but because for a long time I never thought I’d be able to do something like this. Running 26.2 miles always seemed impossible to me. Yet here I am, signed up, training, and determined to cross that finish line in April.
I’m taking on this challenge to raise money for ADSS, a charity that is very close to my heart.
My grandad is living with dementia, and watching someone you love go through that is something that’s difficult to put into words. Dementia doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed; it affects the whole family. It changes everyday life, creates challenges that most people never see, and leaves families trying to make the most of every moment they have together.
My grandad has always been a huge inspiration to me. He’s one of the reasons I’m determined to do this, even on the days when training is hard and motivation is low. If he can face the challenges that dementia brings every day, then I can push myself through a few early mornings, sore legs, and long training runs.
Over the last few years I’ve taken on challenges before, including stepping into a cage to raise money for charity, but this one feels different. Every mile I run will be for my grandad, for my family, and for every family affected by dementia.
ADSS provides incredible support for people living with dementia and for the families around them. The work they do makes a real difference, and that’s why I’m hoping to raise as much money as possible for them.
So if you’re able to donate, no matter how big or small the amount, I’d be incredibly grateful. Your support will help motivate me through the months of training ahead and, more importantly, help ADSS continue supporting people who need it.
Thank you for reading, thank you for your support, and thank you for helping me turn something I never thought I could do into a reality.
I’m doing this for you, you old git.
Love Sam x
