Team: Three peaks for BDD

Three Peaks Challenge

We are the leading charity dedicated to the relief of suffering from BDD. It aims to advance education and understanding of BDD. It supports research into BDD and its treatments. Whilst we are based in the UK, our reach is international and we are proud to be the only charity for BDD in the world.

Story

Hi - and thanks for visiting my page! A few colleagues and I (pictured above) are taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge in May 2026 - where you climb the highest mountains in England (Scafell Pike), Scotland (Ben Nevis) and Wales (Snowdon) consecutively and all within a 24 hour period!

We are doing this to raise some money for an incredible charity which supports and advocates for people with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) - you can read more about the condition and the charity below:

Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is a serious mental health condition characterised by a preoccupation with one or more perceived defects or flaws in appearance, which are often unnoticeable to others. This often leads to obsessive intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviours, avoidance of social situations, isolation, feelings of shame and disgust, high levels of distress, as well as significant disruption of daily life including relationships, work and education.

It is estimated that about 2% of the adult population are living with BDD - that's about 1 in 50. Research shows that 50% of individuals with BDD are unemployed, 30% will be housebound at some point during the course of their illness and 60% of young people with BDD are not attending school (or only sporadically). Sadly, the suicide rate in BDD is high, with 1 in 4 people with BDD attempting suicide and the completed suicide rate 45 times higher than the general population.

The BDD Foundation is the only charity in the world dedicated solely to supporting those affected by BDD, a serious and often misunderstood mental health condition. Founded by individuals with lived experience, we officially became a registered charity in 2013 to raise awareness, improve understanding, and ensure that those affected by BDD can access the help they need. Since then, we’ve supported thousands through support groups, recovery programmes, education, advocacy, and a growing global community. Together, we’re breaking the stigma around BDD and helping people find hope and recovery.
