IRONMAN 70.3 WEYMOUTH · 15 September 2024 ·

Aphasia is a language disorder which affects a person’s ability to speak, read, write and understand language. There are an estimated 350,000 people living with a diagnosis of Aphasia in the UK, often the devastating result of a stroke or head injury. Aphasia Support is a registered charity providing tailored speech and language therapy and long-term support to people with Aphasia, and their carers. The charity aims to improve the quality of life for people with Aphasia, helping them to regain control, confidence and independence. With your kindness and generosity, we can create a world where every person with Aphasia has access to support and can communicate with confidence.

Story

Sadly, earlier this year my lovely Grandma passed away after an 8 year fight with Primary Progressive Aphasia.

I've decided to take on a half ironman triathlon in an effort to raise money for this rare but cruel disease.

For those who don't know, a half ironman consists of a 1.9km swim, a 90km bike and a 21km run, back to back. Whilst I've done a couple of sprint triathlons before, this distance is a big step up, so I'm expecting to have to dig seriously deep!

The event is in Weymouth on 15th September. Any donation would be hugely appreciated. Thank you in advance!

A little about Primary Progressive Aphasia - PPA is a rare type of dementia, where language is heavily affected. As it's a primary progressive condition, the symptoms get worse over time. Usually, the first problem people with primary progressive aphasia (PPA) notice is difficulty finding the right word or remembering somebody's name.
