Story
I will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon alongside Will and Ella , hoping to raise money for Diabetes UK! I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in March 2022, just before taking my A levels and I had to adapt to living with a chronic illness for the rest of my life.
I didn’t know much about diabetes at the time and missed all the now obvious symptoms that I had and became very ill. Since having t1d I’ve realised how much misinformation and misunderstanding there is about diabetes. I am hoping to raise more awareness surrounding diabetes of all types and by running and raising money, we will support the amazing work of Diabetes UK who advocate for people living with diabetes as well as supporting research for finding a cure for type 1 diabetes.
In order to live, I have to wear a blood glucose monitor and insulin pump all the time to manage my blood sugar levels. I was very lucky when I was diagnosed to very quickly have access to medical devices from the NHS, but this is not the case for every person living with diabetes and Diabetes UK advocate for free diabetes tech on prescription.
I am so grateful for the support from my family and friends helping me to manage this condition. When At first I was terrified to eat carbs or do any kind of exercise as I didn’t think I would be able to manage my blood sugar, but I didn’t let having type 1 stop me from doing the things I love and I want to celebrate that by running LLHM and to raise awareness for all the amazing people who live with this hidden disability. Please support us if you can! Thanks so much! ♥️
