Ingleby Greenhow's fundraiser for The CATS Foundation

Sandra Butler is raising money for The CATS Foundation

Run/Walk 26 miles

The Cure and Action for Tay-Sachs (CATS) Foundation was created to raise awareness and support families affected by Tay-Sachs and Sandhoff. They are both terminal illnesses in children where those affected by the infantile form usually lose their battle against the disease by the age of 5.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We were recently contacted by a brother of one of our former pupils, Lucia Lowe. At 11 years old, Lucia was diagnosed with juvenile Tay-Sachs which is a rare and devastating genetic condition that affects the nervous system and causes progressive neurological decline which typically reduces life expectancy to teenage years. The disease has had a profound impact on Lucia since being diagnosed in 2010 where she has lost her ability to communicate, eat, and walk unassisted, among many other things, requiring constant, around the clock care. Lucia is remembered fondly by staff for her cheekiness and her infectious laugh and smile.

Tay-Sachs is a heartbreaking condition with no cure, and for Lucia, and many others with the disease, it provides an uncertain future. In April, Lucia’s brother Loukas and Lucia via an assisted wheelchair will be running The London Marathon for the Cure and Action for Tay-Sachs (CATS) Foundation.

By running the marathon, Loukas and Lucia aim to raise £10,000 for CATs and we would like to help them reach their target. Next half term, Nursey, Reception and Year 1 will walk a lap of the school field each day for 26 days and from Year 2 onwards the children will either run or walk a mile a day for 26 days each lunchtime. We ask for the children to be sponsored in doing this. Each child will bring home a sponsor form and you can either collect donations and pay via your Parent Pay account or you can donate directly onto our Just Giving Page
