Lakeland Trails 100k Ultra Marathon

Sandra Gates is raising money for CanRehab Trust

Lakeland Trails 100k Ultra Marathon · 11 July 2026

CanRehab Trust helps people living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis to become or stay active by providing safe, individualised exercise programmes. People who have had a cancer diagnosis are matched with a registered cancer exercise qualified instructor who can provide them with either on line or face to face individualised support. CanRehab Trust was founded by Dr Anna Campbell MBE who is Professor with a special interest in cancer and exercise and founder of the first training provider for cancer and exercise rehabilitation in the UK. The Charity’s seeks to support people affected by cancer to stay or become more active and increase their ability to self-management during and after cancer treatments and improve their quality of life. CanRehab Trust has developed a Register of approved personal trainers and health professionals qualified to provide safe tailored exercise programmes for people living with cancer. We aim to match individuals who require an exercise programme to the appropriately qualified instructor who can provide a number of safe and effective exercise sessions tailored to the person’s needs based on their diagnosis, stage of treatment, other health issues and previous exercise experience.

Story

It’s time for a new challenge

Teigan and Sandra are taking on the Lakeland Trails 100k on 11th July in aid of CanRehab Trust.

CanRehab Trust is a small charity that helps anyone with a cancer diagnosis get more active no matter what their fitness level by providing individualised exercise support to people living with and beyond cancer in the UK. The charity works with all stages including stage 4 and metastases, helping to keep them active for as long as possible.

The challenge: The race starts in Ambleside in the Lake District at 00:01 on 11th July (i.e. midnight). We have been in training for 6 months, through hail storms, gale force winds, snow, rain and lots of very wet and muddy trainers. It’s not just 100k (62 miles), factor in 12,000 ft of ascent (that’s approximately 3 x Ben Nevis), a 23 hour time limit with strict cut off points throughout the course (if you don’t make it you get picked up) and finally having sleep deprivation before we even begin - we didn’t pick an easy one!!!

Neither of us knows how we will hold up but as someone once said ‘you only fail if you don’t try’ and we are going to try!
